<title>The system of subjects of forensic expert activity in Ukraine: current state and problems of its formation</title>
<link>http://repository.ukd.edu.ua/xmlui/handle/123456789/2348</link>
<description>The system of subjects of forensic expert activity in Ukraine: current state and problems of its formation
Коваленко, Артем Володимирович; Лямпель, Валентина Іванівна; Kovalenko, Artem; Lyampel, Valentyna
The article examines the current state of the Ukrainian system of subjects of forensic expert activity and highlights certain problems related to its functioning. The provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On Forensic Examination” concerning the system of subjects of forensic expert activity are analyzed. It is demonstrated that forensic, forensic medical, and forensic psychiatric examinations may be conducted exclusively by specialized state forensic institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. These subjects, together with experts who are not employees of specialized state institutions, are also authorized to conduct all other types of forensic examinations.&#13;
The structure and principal tasks of the expert services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as well as the forensic science institutes of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, are examined in detail. Attention is also drawn to the ongoing reform of forensic institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It is noted that the forensic expert powers previously vested in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have been transferred to civilian institutions. The article also presents proposals put forward by representatives of Ukraine’s anti-corruption law enforcement bodies regarding the establishment of a specialized forensic institution within the structure of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. Furthermore, the system of forensic institutions and independent experts who do not belong to the category of state specialized institutions is demonstrated.&#13;
Emphasis is placed on the principal problems associated with the formation and functioning of the system of forensic institutions in Ukraine. Among these, particular attention is drawn to the absence of a single center responsible for the development and implementation of state policy in this field, the lack of coherent legislative regulation, the subordination of forensic institutions to different governmental agencies, and the potential for conflicts of interest arising from the institutional subordination of both the ordering bodies and the providers of forensic examinations within the same authority, among other issues.

<title>The Role of the Comité Ucraíno de Auxílio às Vítimas da Guerra in the Life of Ukrainian Immigrants in Brazil (Based on the Official Correspondence in 1946–1948)</title>

<description>The Role of the Comité Ucraíno de Auxílio às Vítimas da Guerra in the Life of Ukrainian Immigrants in Brazil (Based on the Official Correspondence in 1946–1948)
Kovbasko, Yurii
The paper analyses the role of the Ukrainian Committee for Aid to Victims of the War in the life of Ukrainian immigrants in Brazil in the post-war period. The empirical material comprises official correspondence (1946–1948) between the Committee and Ukrainian immigrants in Brazil, which justifies the scientific novelty of the study, as these letters have been transcribed from handwriting into text and analysed for the first time. The research methodology is primarily based on content analysis of the letters and is supported by the methods of text typology and classification. The Committee was the only officially functioning Ukrainian-speaking organization in Brazil, initially established to support displaced Ukrainians in Europe; nevertheless, it also provided support to Ukrainians who immigrated to Brazil. The main issues that troubled Ukrainian immigrants in Brazil, prompting them to seek the Committee’s assistance, included: &#13;
gruelling working conditions; undue payment and unjust wages; harsh living conditions in remote areas; lack of Ukrainian newspapers, magazines, and books; a desire to relocate closer to other Ukrainians; requests for information about life and working conditions in other areas or the whereabouts of relatives or friends who lived in Latin America.

<description>[Is BEFORE a preposition, an adverb, or a conjunction? Searching for an answer in diachrony]
Kovbasko, Yurii
The paper traces the development of the preposition, the adverb, and the conjunction BEFORE. It proves that BEFORE was formed as a preposition in early Old English. Its frequency subsequently decreased before resuming its development in the late 19th century. The adverb BEFORE was transposed from the preposition and institutionalized in Old English; it experienced constant growth up to late Middle English, when the category suffered decay. The conjunction BEFORE was transposed from the preposition in early Middle English and was characterized by prolonged institutionalization, which ended in early Modern English when the catego-ry started evolving.

<title>[A diachronic approach to the functional trans-position of ALONG and ALONGSIDE in the English language]</title>
<link>http://repository.ukd.edu.ua/xmlui/handle/123456789/2330</link>
<description>[A diachronic approach to the functional trans-position of ALONG and ALONGSIDE in the English language]
Kovbasko, Yurii
The paper investigates the evolution of the prepositions and adverbs ALONG and ALONGSIDE as subjects to the process of functional transposition. The research investigates the formation of ALONG as an adverb during the Middle English period and its functional transposition into the category of the preposition in late Middle English. The correlation between the initial and transposed categories has stabilized, and they are &#13;
more or less equally represented in Present-Day English. ALONGSIDE appeared as an adverb at the end of Early Modern English; in Late Modern English, it was transposed into a preposition, which is almost suppressing the initial category of an adverb in Present-Day English.
